This is going to be THE party season to remember… Finally, those work parties and festive nights out are here and you want to let your hair down – quite literally!
I, for one, am ready to get dressed up and get into the Yuletide spirit. Naturally, this means some serious party hair, but how do you prevent hair damage when flitting from one function to the next? Here’s my little Christmas advent gift to you: 12 tips for fabulous healthy hair this party season.
(As I’ve been writing this, restrictions are changing, fingers crossed festivities are still on!)
1. Brush with care
It’s such a simple, everyday gesture, we do it without even thinking. But dragging a brush through your hair can cause serious hair damage and don’t get me started on brushing wet hair – it’s so fragile -, please stop and think! Use a wide-toothed comb or paddle brush to gently remove any tangles, working from your tips to your roots. A damaged brush or comb means hair damage so consider treating yourself to a new one. Nosheen Hair Oil Paddle Brush is designed to massage your scalp and care for your hair. It even comes with a lovely cotton storage bag to keep it clean.
2. Use a heat protection spray
There are thousands on the market, from the pricey to the budget-friendly, so there’s no excuse not to use one when drying or heat-styling your hair. Heat protection sprays and lotions mainly work by coating the hair with a protective film. This helps to keep moisture locked in and disperses heat along the hair shaft. My top tip: look for heat protection products that contain amino acids, keratin or wheat proteins as this adds a further layer of protection.
3. Check the quality of your heat styling tools
Yes, there’s a cost involved, but honestly, if you want to keep your hair in great shape then investing in the right tools is absolutely essential. A high-wattage, ionic hair dryer causes less hair damage because it spreads the heat more evenly throughout your hair and seals in moisture. Likewise, for ceramic- or titanium-coated straighteners, the coating is there to protect your hair. Chipped or broken tools are a no-no and should be replaced. A damaged tool = damaged hair.
4. Good hair starts from within
As the saying goes, “You are what you eat”. So, if you want luscious-looking hair, excellent nutrition is a must. We know this one’s a toughie during party season because you’ll want to indulge in all that scrummy food and drink… So why not try a supplement that’s specifically designed for hair? This will help to keep stressed hair at bay.
5. Use an intensive conditioning treatment
The best thing you can do to prevent hair damage is to nourish it between parties. Opt for a deep conditioning treatment or hair mask, or you could try Nosheen Hair Oil. It’s packed with vitamins for stronger, healthier hair and smells delicious as it contains ten organic oils. It also cares for your scalp, soothing and stimulating the hair follicles to promote hair growth. What’s more, you can use it as a ‘quick’ one-hour treatment or, for best results, leave it in overnight for an intense hair work-out.
6. Opt for tender towel drying
If you’ve already got stressed hair on the brink of damage from over-styling, then rough towel drying is only going to make it worse and increase breakage. A better option is to use a microfibre towel wrap as the fine fibres absorb moisture without rubbing. It will even reduce blow-drying time. Nosheen Hair Oil Microfibre Hair Towel Wrap is perfect for use after washing your hair or applying our hair oil.
7. Sleep on it
Good sleep is good for your soul… and also your hair! Sleeping on a silk pillowcase may seem like a new ‘trend’ but they were hugely popular in the 50s and 60s, used by the likes of Marilyn Monroe. The science behind them is that silk allows the hair to glide as you move, so it doesn’t catch and tangle. Silk also helps to retain the hair’s moisture as it doesn’t absorb it like cotton. Silk pillowcases are also said to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. To wake up feeling fresh as a daisy with glossy hair and dewy skin, use our Nosheen Hair Oil 100% Pure Mulberry Silk Pillowcase.
8. Use the right shampoo and conditioner
This might seem obvious, but habits are sometimes just that. Check the condition of your hair – are you using the right products? If you’re styling more frequently, you might want to opt for products that are more moisturising. Alternatively, if you want to create more volume in your party hairstyles, then use a shampoo and conditioner that add body – it will save effort with styling products when the time comes.
9. Get a trim
You’re unlikely to want a drastic cut before party season but getting a trim ahead of the festivities means you’ll be starting with your hair in the best possible condition. Getting a trim can help prevent hair damage by removing broken and split ends, making your hair easier to brush and style. As an added plus, this will also ensure your hair looks smoother, shinier and healthier, just how you want it!
10. Plan your style ahead of time
Planning is not just for mealtimes – hair planning is important too. Save on products and heat styling by planning your party looks in advance. Want beachy waves? Try plaiting your hair and leaving it in overnight to create soft, natural-looking waves. For bouncy curls, try heat-free curlers – they’ve come a long way in the last 20 years! Eliminating the heat source when styling prevents hair damage, it’s that simple.
11. Think outside the box
Party hair doesn’t have to mean the same for everyone, and in this season of excess, less can be more. You don’t always need to curl or straighten your hair to within an inch of its life to create a cute look. Healthy hair that shines and moves with you is always sassy and sophisticated. Try a sleek ponytail or even a messy bun. These are both perfect for keeping you cool if there’s dancing involved.
12. Steam it
Another old-school hair treatment that’s making a comeback is steaming. How does it work? The heat and steam help moisture to penetrate your hair. You could treat yourself to a steam session at your local salon, or alternatively, try a home version. Apply oil, for example, Nosheen Hair Oil, then pop on a shower cap and wrap it up in a hot damp towel or the Nosheen Hair Oil Microfibre Hair Towel Wrap. Alternatively, clip your hair up after applying your oil and stand under the shower (without getting your hair wet). You can do this weekly.
That’s it. I hope you’ve enjoyed my 12 gifts to you. As they say, prevention is better than cure, so now you’re fully briefed and prepped, get out there and have some fun in the run-up to Christmas! Whatever you’re up to, I wish you a wonderful festive season with your loved ones. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like any tips on using our hair oil.
